The new iPhone version of Pocket Life is out on the shelves of Apple’s iTunes App Stores worldwide. Adding to its existing features to interact and view friends’ real time location on interactive maps the new version now allows to upload and share geo-tagged photos with friends and view them on maps right away.

Other improvements include: favourite places can easily be stored and shared with connected friends and social communication features have been improved. Users can now share their thoughts using a quick status update button and choose from pre-set emoticons to express their mood.

The new iPhone version of Pocket Life is available as a full paid version and a free “lite” version. The lite version has all of the functionality, but limits the number of connected friends you can see on a map.

The Australian media and the local communities in Victoria, Australia, are calling for a bushfire tracking and early warning tool.

Pocket Life is now supporting the Australian Early Warning Network (EWN) with its technology. Amongst many other emergency scenarios, EWN currently tracks severe weather events and uses the system to alert residents directly in the path of a storm with potential for hail, flash flooding or damaging winds.

As part of this service Pocket Life enables both mobile alerting and location capabilities. For instance, controllers and responders will have access to the system to ascertain the location of assets and communicate with them. This is achieved through the handset where the fire truck can update its position every minute. The asset will show up on the map and will also show who it is and where the event has been.

EWN is multilingual and through EWN’s partnership with Google and Pocketlife the system is now available world wide for free. Many residents, fire brigades and other community services have already registered and more join each day.

Be it friends, favourites or photos: Pocket Life now features rich map call outs that give you all the information and interaction options you need at your fingertips.

For example when you see a friend on the map now you will directly see his last status update and his location. By clicking on the drop down menu you can then chose quick interaction options like sending a message or an email, get directions to him or add his current location to your favourites. Similar rich map call outs are now available of favourites and geo-tagged photos.
